About ACE

ACE (Action against Child Exploitation) is a certified Japanese NPO founded in 1997, dedicated to addressing global social issues related to children's and youth's human rights. ACE’s primary focus is the abolition and prevention of child labour worldwide, with an estimated 160 million children currently deprived of education and exposed to significant risks of injury and illness due to hazardous labour.

ACE strives for a world without child labour and provides direct support to children, families, and communities in cocoa-producing regions of Ghana. ACE works closely with businesses and governments to establish a social framework that prevents the exploitation of children.

In addition to its international efforts, ACE is actively promoting children’s rights in Japan. In order to create a society where children's rights are upheld and children are empowered, ACE conducts workshops and training sessions. The organization also engages in advocacy to influence policies at both the national and local government levels. ACE’s initiatives extend to improving children’s well-being in Okinawa, striving to create a supportive environment for children's rights and empowerment.

Details of Our Activities

In cocoa-producing communities in Ghana, we conduct activities such as monitoring child labour, rescuing and protecting children, improving school environments, supporting income improvement for cocoa farmers, and assisting in the establishment of local laws to eliminate child labour. We aim to build a system where communities and local governments work together to prevent and resolve child labour issues. Additionally, through collective impact involving various stakeholders such as Japanese companies, consumers, and governments in both Japan and Ghana, we work towards preventing and eliminating child labour in cocoa production. Our goal is to create a society where chocolate free from child labour is easily accessible and the norm.

In Japan, as a measure to create a society where children's rights are protected and children are empowered to live vibrant lives, we will conduct workshops and training to help both children and adults understand and take action on children's rights issues. We also engage in advocacy activities to make policy recommendations to national and local governments. Furthermore, we will carry out activities in Okinawa Prefecture aimed at improving children's well-being.
