I am an analog person. I did not understand the concept of "crowdfunding." 2 months ago, I was asked to write six Sutematsu episodes to share with the "followers" of this project. I tried to convey who Sutematsu was and share my feeling toward this project. Sutematsu means her mother's feeling toward her. "Sute" means given up or abandoned. "Matsu" means waiting. Her mother gave her up for the government mission, but patiently waited for her return. I felt the same way about this fundraising project.
To my surprise, we immediately began to receive encouraging messages and donations from people that I have not met before. Light of hope was shining through the clouds. I began to understand what this crowdfunding is all about. Thank you for your understanding and support.
In 2 months, we will be selecting the first Sutematsu scholar. Next year, she will go to a prestigious women's college in the east. She will meet many diverse people there and embark on her unique life. I envision she will take on challenges that were not possible one hundred years ago in Japan.
