CancerNet Japan (CNJ) has recently formed a partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb in support of Continent 2 Continent 4 Cancer (C2C4C), the company’s charity bike ride event initiative, which was started out of a desire “to provide more support for people facing cancer.” We look forward to your warm support for the CNJ activities and our partner BMS’s commitment to C2C4C.

Continent 2 Continent 4 Cancer (C2C4C)
CancerNet Japan (CNJ), a certified non-profit organization, provides all kinds of evidence-based information from a patient advocacy standpoint to help patients with cancer undergo voluntary treatment. CNJ has recently formed a partnership with Bristol Myers Squibb in support of Continent 2 Continent 4 Cancer (C2C4C), the company’s charity bike ride event initiative, which was started out of a desire “to provide more support for people facing cancer.” We look forward to your warm support for the CNJ activities and our partner BMS’s commitment to C2C4C.

2023 C2C4C Japan

What Is Bristol Myers Squibb’s C2C4C?

C2C4C is the collective name for a series of events held under the name of Coast 2 Coast 4 Cancer (from coast to coast, to help people survive cancer) in the United States, Country 2 Country 4 Cancer (from country to country, to help them survive cancer) in Europe, and Continent 2 Continent 4 Cancer (from continent to continent, to help them survive cancer) in Japan.

The tradition of C2C4C began in 2014, when our employees in the U.S. involved in cancer research felt strongly that “we should provide more support to people facing cancer.” They then started a series of cycling events, during which they ride bikes thinking about those who have lost their lives to cancer and those who are currently fighting the disease. After two successful years in the U.S., C2C4C was launched in Europe in 2016, Japan in 2021, and Latin America in 2022.

For the 2023 C2C4C event in Japan, approximately 70 riders from BMS in seven teams will ride the routes below from September 21 to October 11.

You can choose which team you are supporting when you make your donation. Your support will encourage the riders. Your comments are also welcome.

We will also include an introduction of the teams as an “activity report” as soon as it is ready.

Please note that any support committed through this website will go directly to CNJ (not through BMS).
Your support through this C2C4C is not intended to obtain or retain any illegal transactions, nor is it intended as a commitment or offer to perform any act that violates any law, regulation, or industry rule.

Your support for CancerNet Japan will be used to cover

  • production costs for the booklet “’Want You To Know More’ Series”
  • operating costs for the Over Cancer Together campaign
  • operating costs for the Japan Cancer Forum, the Blood Cancer Forum, and the Chayamachi Cancer Forum
  • operating costs for the Breast Cancer Survivor Coordinator Training Course and the CNJ Cancer Navigator Certification Examination
  • operating costs for the Cancer Channel (a free cancer-related video-sharing website)
  • operating costs for cancer education activities
  • Secretariat costs, etc.

CNJ provides all kinds of evidence-based information to help patients access treatment voluntarily. We communicate such information by producing and distributing to patients with cancer the booklet series “Want You to Know More” and hosting the Japan Cancer Forum, the Blood Cancer Forum, and other seminars. We also provide courses for patients and their families, including one called “Over Cancer Together―Let’s Survive the Disease Together” and a Breast Cancer Survivor Coordinator Training Course, to help realize a society in which people suffering from cancer can live with a sense of fulfillment.

With your support, we can provide more patients, their families, supporters, and healthcare professionals up-to-date, evidence-based information. And by providing them with appropriate information we can help many patients and their families live a life worth living.
Here are some of our projects.

Producing and Distributing a Series of Booklets for Cancer Patients “Want You to Know More”

We produce the “Want You to Know More” series of booklets, which familiarizes readers with topics that readers should ideally become familiar with, including an overview of cancer, surgical treatments, chemotherapy, and countermeasures against side-effects. We distribute them to base hospitals providing cancer treatment across Japan. We also produce booklets for caregivers on topics common to each cancer type (e.g., sexuality, cachexia, immunotherapy).

Hosting the “Over Cancer Together―Let’s Survive the Disease Together” Campaign

The “Over Cancer Together―Let’s Survive the Disease Together” (OCT) campaign aims to realize “a society where people, including those who have cancer, can learn about the disease, face it, and never be defeated by it” by listening to the stories of patients with cancer and their families, bereaved families, caregivers, friends, and other people with a wide range of cancer-related experiences (i.e., cancer survivors) and identifying cancer-related issues in Japan – any gender, any age, any type of cancer. To date, many OCT students have stepped forward to engage in activities that move people’s hearts and help society.

Hosting the Japan Cancer Forum

This is one of the largest cancer medical forums in Japan, and is provided to all people involved with cancer, including cancer patients and their families. In recent years, there have been remarkable advances in cancer care, with clinical research, the development of treatment guidelines for various diseases, and the personalization of cancer care, all contributing to the ongoing improvement of the environment and allowing patients to receive better cancer care. However, there is still insufficient dissemination of treatment guidelines and equalization of cancer care, and patients and their families sometimes neglect their treatment or are exposed to unreliable or erroneous information, such as supplements and alternative therapies based on inadequate evidence.

From this perspective, the forum aims to be a place where patients and their families and the general public can recognize and learn about cancer, get together, and find courage and hope by having access to constantly updated information on various types of cancer, and information on progress being made in cancer treatments. The forum is also designed to “help the public, including those who have cancer, learn about the disease and strive to conquer it,” as stated in the Basic Plan to Promote Cancer Control Programs. Each year, we host keynote speeches and Q&A sessions inviting leading healthcare professionals and researchers in their respective fields, and others from various backgrounds, including patients and their families. Anyone with an interest in cancer can participate in these events.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the milestone event, which will be held online under the theme “Living in a Diverse Era―Your Choice, My Choice.”

Hosting the Blood Cancer Forum

This is one of the largest blood cancer forums in Japan for patients and their families. The Blood Cancer Forum has been held since 2019, providing up-to-date healthcare information with the cooperation of healthcare professionals leading blood cancer treatment in Japan. It aims to create a place where not only patients with blood cancer and their families but also the general public, including donors and volunteers, and healthcare professionals, can come together and learn about the disease.
