☆☆You can select your language from the pull-down menu at the top right of the screen☆☆ Asian Conference of Religions for Peace (ACRP/RfP Asia) and Afghanistan Peace Action! Project were first encountered at a lecture in September 2018.

At that time, a staff member of the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC), who was in charge of the Afghanistan project, introduced various activities in the region.

Foreign militaries are still in the region and society is unstable, there were Afghanistan people who were standing up for peace..

Through their activities, we aim to overcome religious differences and achieve peace by working together as "neighbors living on the same planet", rather than just dismiss local problems as "problems in a distant country.

Why not take concrete action to educe people's innate strength and work together to find solutions to the problems?

We look forward to your warm support! (Copyright of pictures are belong to Peace Village United.<https://pv-u.org/>)☆☆

What is Afghanistan Peace Action!?/

Afghanistan Peace Action! was started by the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC). In order to carry out more intensive activities, Peace Village United in Japan and Your Voice Organization (YVO) in Afghanistan were formed. Afghanistan has been in conflict for decades. In recent years, fighting between the government, foreign forces and the Taliban has been expanding. In addition, there are various armed groups, and it has been pointed out that many influential leaders in multiple areas are rearming. At the end of February 2020, the U.S. and the Taliban reached an agreement that Afghanistan would not be used as a base for attacks against the U.S. and other countries and that U.S. forces would withdraw from the country. However, fighting still continues and there is no ceasefire or peace between the government and the Taliban. There are strong concerns about the worsening security situation in the area.

In the context and as a result of these conflicts, people are living in an environment where violence is all around them. Guns and violence are prevalent in families and communities. Local conflicts can involve armed groups and lead to greater violence. This affects children as well, some of them are taught to fight.

The cycle of violence needs to be broken by the local citizens themselves. In recent years, there is a growing demand for peace activities by citizens who do not belong to any particular group. Despite the harsh environment, such peace activities do exist, and there is an increasing need to support them from within and outside the community.

In light of this situation, and with a strong desire for peace, we are cooperating with YVO in their proposed and implemented activities.

Afghanistan Peace Action! Initiatives/

Afghanistan Peace Action! is carrying out various initiatives while listening to the voices of the residents, focusing on the following seven activities;

(1) Preparation and use of booklets on peace and non-violence: The booklets introduce familiar examples of resolving conflicts at home and in the community, and the roles that citizens should play in their respective positions. The magazine introduces past achievements and successful cases (conflict resolution in the community, advocacy activities, and peace study sessions conducted at the request of women themselves).

(2) Training of Trainer (TOT) for local peace activists: A peace activist is selected from each region where the activity is to be implemented and trained as a trainer so that the local activist can carry out the peace and non-violence learning activities in the region, which YVO has been mainly responsible for.

(3) Learning about peace and non-violence:

- Participants are youth, women, children, community leaders, etc., and are selected by local peace activists.
- Participants will be selected by the local peace activists.

- Content: Learning sessions on peace and nonviolence to translate knowledge into action. From the perspective that the problems of conflict and violence occur close to home and in the community, this course mainly deals with problems and solutions in the community and at home.
- Examples of content: definitions and causes of peace, conflict, and violence at the individual, family, and social levels; the impact of various emotions (discrimination, jealousy, hatred, suspicion, love, etc.) on well-being; communication and ways to resolve things; violence prevention and resolution within the family; and the effect of education on family well-being.
- It conveys a wide range of skills (cooperation, negotiation, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, emotional coping, self-awareness, risk-recognition, etc.) for effectively dealing with challenges in daily life.
- In addition to the use of the booklet described in (1), the methods include cooperation among the participants, such as sharing examples of conflict resolution and encouraging each other, as well as dissemination and dissemination of what they have learned to their families and communities. In learning each other, we use a combination of explanatory formats, presentations by the participants themselves, group work, and role-playing.

(4)Peace workshops (inter-regional experience sharing): Residents of diverse communities, religious leaders, government officials, and related NGOs gather to learn from each other through presentations and group work, and exchange opinions on how to create peace.

5) Advocacy training: Training to strengthen the capacity of local residents to carry out advocacy (awareness-raising, advocacy, campaign activities, etc.). This is for active members of the peace and nonviolence learning community. The targets of such advocacy are based on the will of the residents, such as banning toy guns, banning corporal punishment in schools, women's education and women's role in peacebuilding.

(6) Self-directed peace activities: The program provides technical, physical, and emotional support to enable people to carry out peace activities on their own initiative. Examples of such peace activities include sporting events for peace, some kind of peace campaign, deterring violence-prone environments, and prohibiting corporal punishment of children.

(7) Peace Art Competition: Each participant will create a piece of art, including a discussion of what they think peace is, and display it on the wall of a school or community center for as long as possible for the community to see. There will also be an exhibition of similar peace art by professional artists.

Afghanistan Peace Action! is made possible by your generous support. All your donations will be sent to Peace Village United from Asian Council of Religions for Peace in Tokyo.

Your donation will be used mainly for the production of booklets on peace and non-violence, the study of peace and non-violence, and the implementation of residents' voluntary peace activities and peace workshops.
For every 1,000 JPY donated by 15 people, a peace workshop can be held, bringing as many as 60 people together to build peace in their homes and society, and strengthen the practice.

The challenges facing the community are becoming more complex and confusing, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to provide for all of them.
